Frequently asked questions
What is a hoverboard?
A hoverboard, otherwise known as a self-balancing scooter, is a portable electric device that moves on two wheels. They're powered by batteries that are often rechargeable, with a long platform for riders to stand on between the wheels. The rider needs to lean forward, backward, or left and right to move the wheels in the same direction. Several sensors and pressure pads can help catch the rider's weight distribution and prevents them from falling backwards as it moves.
Hoverboards are super fun for kids because they make them feel like they are hovering above the ground as they move. There is a learning curve for hoverboards though, as they require a lot of balance and concentration to navigate. However, once the skill has been mastered, the fun hoverboards offer is endless!
How quick can Razor hoverboards go?
Most hoverboards from Razor can reach speeds of around 11 km/h, but the Razor Hovertrax Prizma can reach speeds of 14.5 km/h! This is perfect for thrill seekers or slightly older kids who want a hoverboard for commuting to school. A great benefit of Razor hoverboards is that they usually come with two modes, including Training mode and Normal mode, to determine the maximum speed of the board. Training mode lets your child learn at a slower pace to help them get the hang of riding before moving up to the faster Normal mode.
Do children need to wear any safety gear when using a Razor hoverboard?
Yes, it's strongly recommended that your child wear safety gear when riding a hoverboard - no matter the brand. Here's what's recommended:
- A helmet
- Knee and elbow pads
- Wrist guards
- Long-sleeved clothing
- Suitable shoes
However, at the very least, a helmet should always be worn. Make sure you get your child one that has been safety tested and that properly fits to give them the most protection. Your child should never ride their hoverboard without a helmet, no matter how much experience they have.
Can Razor hoverboards be used outdoors?
Razotr hoverboards are designed for smooth, flat surfaces such as indoor flooring, footpaths, and paved areas. Most can be used outside as long as you know that the floor is even and secure. Going over potholes and bumps can cause your child to fall off-balance or even break their hoverboard. Razor hoverboards also aren't suitable for rough, wet, or uneven terrain unless you specifically buy an all-terrain model, so be careful where you take your child to ride their board outside.
How long does it take to charge a Razor hoverboard?
The length of time it takes to charge your Razor hoverboard depends on the model you choose, but as a general rule of thumb, it'll take between four and six hours to charge from zero. Make sure you use a brand-specific charger and follow the charging instructions to charge your hoverboard in as little time as possible, as aftermarket chargers might take longer.
