The answer to this will be different for every child, so we often recommend that the best age to buy your little one a balance bike is when they can walk and fit the bike, which is around 18 months to two years old. This is the average age when children are both physically and developmentally ready to start riding a balance bike, although it might take some practice at first!
There are plenty of differences between a balance bike and a scooter! For example, the running deck is lower on a scooter than the saddle of a balance bike, and the handles are not as tall on a balance bike as they are on a scooter. A balance bike is designed to be sat on and propelled forward with both feet on the floor while a scooter is perfect for propelling with one foot while the other remains standing on the running deck. Balance bikes are the natural first step for children to learn how to ride a scooter, so we always recommend starting off with a great balance bike!
